Mark your calendars for March 14th when the Concord Band will be performing a special concert in Acton. To celebrate the fifty-year history of the Concord Band, this concert will feature a number of special appearances:

  • A commissioned work for band from composer Roger Cichy, who will be on hand to conduct the world premiere performance. The band has recently performed other pieces by Cichy, including Colours and Fanfare for a Festive Day.
  • Retiring Music Director Dr. William G. McManus will be conducting for the final time after fourteen seasons with the band. He has selected Alfred Reed's Armenian Dances, which was also on his very first program with the band. Dr. McManus will also be writing a new arrangement to feature Amanda Carr, jazz vocalist and frequent soloist with the band.
  • The concert will mark the debut of the band's new Music Director, James O'Dell, who will be conducting Malcolm Arnold's Four Scottish Dances and several other selections.
  • Music Director Emeritus William Toland will also return for the concert. Mr. Toland directed the band for more than 30 years and began the band's long tradition of commissioning new music. Mr. Toland will be conducting His Honor, which the band played at its very first performance, and Satiric Dances, the band's first — and perhaps best known — commission.
  • Lewis Buckley, trumpet, will lead the Concord Band Dixieland combo in Dixieland Live!, which he arranged for the band to premiere in April 2001.
  • Nathanial Hefferman, Concord Band bassoonist, will be the featured soloist on a movement from Mozart's Concerto in B-flat Major for bassoon.
