Zacatecus, Mexican March
Genaro Codina
Genaro Codina (1852-1901) was born in the city of Zacatecus, Mexico. Little is
known of his early life, but it is known that he played several instruments and
that the harp was his primary instrument. Codina's Zacatecus, Mexican
March is world famous and was composed while he was an accountant for the
city of Zacatecus. The march was dedicated to Prefirio Diaz, the president of
Mexico. Codina left his accountant's position in 1887 and organized a group
called Tipica Zacatecus, with which he traveled extensively, presenting
concerts throughout Mexico and the United States.
Recorded 1994, William Toland conducting.
